Hello everyone,

I would like to tell you about my first customer experience at Montredo and Chrono24.

I try to keep it as factual as possible and without judgment because I still hope that I will be heard and that a solution will be found.

I have been interested in watches for some time and I quickly bought a composite watch with a Valjoux 7750 in it. I quickly regretted the purchase, sold it, and started saving for a more serious purchase.

With great pleasure I continuously followed Chrono24 and all the beautiful watches that are offered there. My eye falls on the Navitimer watches from Breitling.

On January 9, I saw a very competitive offer from Montredo, a new Navitimer 38mm. I immediately requested a quote. Then I got questions about the price. Was it incl. VAT? Montredo responded nicely that the price was inclusive of VAT but that 2% extra had to be paid because it was sent from Germany. That was acceptable to me and would still be a very good deal. I also asked why this watch was much cheaper than the variants they offered. They responded that the price varies depending on which jeweler the watch is purchased.

That evening I approved the offer and paid.

I received the message that Montredo was preparing the order for shipment.

Today, January 14, I received the message that the watch is no longer available and that they therefore cancel the purchase.

Immediately I contacted Chrono24 and explained that I am disappointed about that and think they should complete the purchase for the agreed amount.
The Chrono employee indicated that they cannot force the seller and that there is only an agreement once the order has been sent. They also indicated that they would cancel the purchase. I indicated that I did not agree with this and they replied that they did not need my confirmation to complete the cancellation. If I found an argument on the basis of which the purchase could go ahead, they would cancel the cancellation.

I found the exact same watch on the Montredo website and with status available. So I called again with Chrono24. I indicated that they could deliver according to their website. But Chrono indicated that they had been in contact with the seller and that the status on the website would not be correct and would be up to date again within 24 hours. I indicated that exactly the same watch with the only difference being the color of the dial was also offered by Montredo on Chrono but for a much higher amount. I indicated that I would agree with that watch for the previously agreed price and that I would see that as a suitable solution. But they still canceled the purchase because it might have gone wrong with the crowds due to the Christmas season. I indicated that I read a lot of reviews and that I read more often about this state of affairs. The employee sounded surprised and indicated that they could not use a bad review and that she would therefore contact a Montredo account manager to ask if the equivalent watch could be delivered for the same price. I indicated that I appreciate it and we agreed to stay in touch about the course.

Less than an hour later I received the message that the purchase was canceled and that the amount paid was returned.

I wonder why Montredo does not independently offer the equivalent watch instead of canceling the purchase immediately. Both Chrono and Montredo do not come across as honest with me in this way and I have serious doubts as to whether they are willing to make a serious effort to find a solution to the problem that has arisen. You can expect from a reliable and large organization that they keep their promises, even when it sometimes gives them less profit by mistake. That is in fact an incidental case. For that reason, I have doubts about the degree of reliability and customer focus of Montredo.

I hope that a suitable solution will come after all, but if you would now ask me whether I would recommend Montredo or Chrono24 to another, the answer is "no".
